Based on wartime prose by Vasil Bykov.
November 1941. A group of soldiers under the command of Lieutenant Ivan Gorchakov is on a mission to blow up a German artillery base and stop the advance on Moscow of the German forces. In just 48 short hours they need to cover almost 40 miles of open terrain, first marching on foot, then crawling on their bellies. Their goal is not just to survive and complete their mission, but to retain their humanity during the ordeal.
