When three people working at a meteorological station up in the mountains stop responding to radiograms, the authorities send a rescue team. When the team arrives at the station, it finds the doors open wide, coals still warm in the furnace of the boiler room, an inoperable radio, and not a soul in sight. Everyone who worked at the station immediately falls under suspicion. They include two meteorologists with spotless track records, but not without oddities. One was obsessed with finding the Abominable Snowman, the other could spend hours building miniature replicas of architectural monuments from matchsticks. Their assistant, 19-year-old Romash, known for his unsurpassed hiding skills, and two amateur speleologists—Irina and her husband Vadim—who appeared near the station recently, are suspects as well.
