On April 15, Karo Oktyabr Film Center hosted the first screening of animated feature “Fantastic Journey to OZ”, a new large-scale project by Melnitsa Animation, CTB Film Company, and Rossiya TV. The film is based on a Russian adaptation of the books by L. Frank Baum.
The film was introduced by producer Sergey Selyanov and actor Dmitry Dyuzhev, who voiced the character of the Bear, the protagonist’s key assistant.
“Ever since we founded Melnitsa Studios we have been meaning to animate these books. The distribution rights belonged to the Germans, and they didn’t express much interest in animating books by a Russian writer. Rossya TV helped us buy the rights for the books and our dream became possible—Urfin Joose is now in movie theatres. We have a great film and a great voice cast—first-rate actors Konstantin Khabensky, Sergey Shnurov, and Dmitry Dzyuzhev,” says Sergey Selyanov.
The cunning Urfin Joose decides to become ruler of the Emerald City and uses the Magic Power to create a wooden army. His plans are ruined by an ordinary girl named Elly, who just happened to be in the magic land in just the right time.
Among the guests present at the premiere were actor Anatoly Bely, director Klim Shipenko, first deputy of the chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation Oleg Ivanov, actresses Ekaterina Vulichenko, Olga Filippova, director Anna Mekilyan, and actor Oleg Dolin.
Watch “Fantastic Journey to OZ” in theatres starting on April 20.
