On September 11, “Karo Oktyabr 11” hosted the premiere screening of the science-fiction comedy The Partner, the first Russian film project featuring a hundred-percent CG protagonist. Actor Sergey Garmash lent his voice and facial expressions to the character, while Alexander Petrov was the body movement model.
Directed by Alexander Andryushchenko. Producers: Sergey Selyanov, Vyacheslav Murugov, and Mikhail Vrubel. Starring Andrey Nazimov, Elizaveta Arzamasova, Yana Koshkina, Ksenia Lavrova-Glinka, musician Roman Bestseller, as well as the five-year-old Timofey Denisov, who made an appearance in a few scenes, and who served as the model for Baby Chrome.
“Timofey started when he was only one,” said director Alexander Andryushchenko. “Now he’s five, so he’s been with us the four years that it took to complete the movie.”
Vyacheslav Murugov, general director CTC Media: “This is a wonderful film, which would be a prized possession of any TV broadcaster. Fortunately, that honour has been bestowed upon CTC, which, as you know, is very particular about his choice of film, and is a major player in the entertainment industry. We believe this agreement is a large step in the right direction. I would like to personally thank the entire film crew and the young and talented director Alexander Andryushchenko in particular.”
Producer Mikhail Vrubel: “A big thank you goes out to our long-standing partners, CTB Film and Mr Selyanov, CTC, the film crew, and everyone else who took part in, and helped, the project. It took us four years to complete The Partner. I think the time was well spent.”
Director Alexander Andryushchenko: “It is customary for people on stage to talk about the hardships of making a movie, but that’s not what I’m going to tell you, because I thoroughly enjoyed every moment I spend working on The Partner. For me, it’s not the story about body exchange, karma, or cops and robbers. It’s about family. About how important it is to fight to protect it.”
Among those who came to congratulate the creators were Alexander and Ekaterina Strizhenov, Irina Sarshenbaum, Ilya Bachurin, Victoria Andriyanova, Anna Banshikova, Vladimir Khotinenko with his wife Tatiana, Kirill Pletnev, Nino Ninidze, and Renata Piatrovski.
After a failed special police operation, Police Force Major Chromov (Sergey Garmash) ends up in the body of a toddler, because of a curse of a fortuneteller. But even after swapping a police car for a stroller, he is capable of wreaking havoc to the large criminal syndicate in the far east of Russia. The mother of the toddler (Liza Arzamasova) has no idea that her son is capable of interrogating criminals, and the father (Andrey Nazimov) is forced to become Chromov’s unwilling partner. Together they will be finishing the special police operation, which means that father and son must hunt down and capture the dangerous mafia boss.
