“Core of the world” is in the Toronto International Film Festival program

The film “Core of the world” by Natalia Meschaninova is in the Contemporary World Cinema program of the 43th Toronto International Film Festival, which is going to be held from 6th to 16th September 2018.

Toronto International Film Festival is one of the world’s largest film screenings. Its special feature is the lack of professional judges. The audience votes for competing participants to decide who is going to get the main prize of the festival – the Audience Award.

The film’s script was written by Natalia Meshchaninova together with Boris Khlebnikov and Stepan Devonin – the main role performer. The film is also starred by Dmitry Podnozov (“The Icebreaker”), Yana Sekste (“Ottepel”), Vita Ovodkov, Ekaterina Vasilieva (“Guest from the future”, “Lev Tolstoy”), Evgeny Syty (“Arrhythmia”, “Gogol: the beginning”).

In the film’s plot centre is Egor – a vet at a training facility for hunting dogs in a remote region of the country. Surrounded by foxes, deer, badgers, and dogs, he lives in a small building next to the house of the facility’s master. It’s easier for him to get along with dogs than with people. In desperate need of a controlled environment after a violent past relationship with his mother, all he wants is to care for the animals and to feel part of the close-knit family he works for.

The film’s premiere was held in the framework of the main competition of the 29th Open Russian Film Festival “Kinotavr”. The film was awarded Gran Prix of the festival as well as the Best Male Actor award (Stepan Devonin).

“Core of the world” will be released on September 27, 2018.
